911 Won’t Help Because Girl Swears
Posted on 06. May, 2009 by admin in Just Stupid
In Lincoln Park, Michigan, a 17-year-old called 911 when her father (recovering at home from brain surgery) had a seizure. Her first call didn’t go through, so the panicked girl hung up and tried again. While the phone was still ringing, the girl said “what the #.” Apparently 911 calls are recorded even while the phone is ringing, so the police officer heard her say it. When the officer answered the call, he was only interested in the fact that the girl said “fuck” and wouldn’t help

This is terrible. We had a case like this in Australia recently where a young boy got lost whilse bushwalking with friends, and dialled 000 (or equivvalent of 911).
The operaters didnt take his call seriously and were being patronising and frustratingly unhelpful.
The boy ended up dying from exposure and exhaustion. The call operators have all been taken to court as a result of the incident and will most likely be charged with criminal negligence resulting in death.

This man needs to be fired… he doesn’t deserve his job. I don’t care if it was out of his character. He screwed up royally, it was an emergency he needs to be let go.

My live-in boyfriend is a police officer, I have an A.S. degree in Law Enforcement, most of my friends are involved with law enforcement, and I have a long line of enforcement officers in my family and this is ridiculous! 2 weeks suspension without pay is not going to be fun for him, but it’s barely a slap on the wrist! A 20-year veteran should have handled this better. Not only was the call handled improperly but he lied TWICE about it. Once when calling the rescue service and and then again later when talking to another officer! And then he arrested her on a bogus charge! He should have been fired!!

Different people respond to extreme stess in different ways. The daughter who was calling for help, was well within her rights to curse if she was scared. Especially if she could not get in touch with the d@%# police on the phone!
The police officer or person who would not help, should go to jail for interfering and refusing to help an emergency victim. He could have cost the patient their life.
This anal cop, should not only go to jail, but loose his job for this.
The cop must be punished!

As an officer, I understand the stressful environment that us officers deal with every day. But, not only is it in our training that we must conduct ourselves professionally at all times, it is our civil duty to do so. Dereliction of Duty and Deliberate Indifference is what this officer needs to be charged with. Not only for conduct unbecoming an officer but also in civil litigation.
The officer’s first comment, “you do not need to swear at 9-1-1″ could have been stated, “ma’am, I understand that you have an emergency, please watch your language, as you are being recorded. How may I help you?” There, the point would have been made, the problem resolved, and the emergency answered.
Also, this officer put the lives of the rescue team on the line by not getting critical information on the call. There could have been weapons involved, or any other imaginable situation that there was no intel on.
Absolutely, a disgusting display of integrity by this officer, but then again, there are not many good things going on in ANY Outer Detroit District Police Departments.
That was in Lincoln Park, MI not CA.

2wks suspension is nothing. What would have been the discipline if the father had died due to the officer’s mishandling of the phone call??

Hmm. Isn’t there some sort of.. I don’t know, amendment like, from.. What’s it called.. The Constitution, that like, allows people the freedom of speech? Something along those lines? I would understand if this girl was in public yelling profanities at a police officer (or anyone), or if she called 911 and just bitched, but this was not in public, she did not verbally abuse the police officer, and the situation is more than deserving of a huge “WTF.”
If you want to be an asshole, fine, that’s your god given right, but for everyone’s sake, don’t become a police officer.

this operator needs to be fired or suspended,
regardless of her demeanor he needs training to deal with ppl under distress,
the officer does need training to be a proper civil servant,
Something must be done about this waste of space.

I agree the cop shouldn’t have started off by berating her about cussing — but if it was such an “emergency” she woulda (shoulda) just said “ok im sorry, my dad is having a seizure please send help now!!” but instead she started threatening to sue him and crap, and that went on for 6minutes - if her dad had really been dieing, the poor man woulda been screwed.
Sounds like her and the cop are both brats and just need some good ole’ corporal punishment (aka a spanking).

Psh. 2 weeks and additional training my ass! They’re all corrupt. We’re all getting censored and I’m fucking sick of it.

Yeah, she’s totally a brat like Oscarr says. Why couldn’t a teenage girl handle the situation calmly and responsibly as she watched her father thrashing around on the ground. No, you’re totally *%#@ing right, I’m incredibly surprised that she didn’t just magically come to her senses and apologize in a situation like that. Definitely.
Seriously, do people like you think at all before you type?

As a LEO of over 20 yrs, I believe the officer was completely in the wrong. I’ve had many many people cuss at me; however, I have never denied the help they required. I don’t believe that the officer should be fired based on his past history. The officer needs to be sent to EAP to find out what caused him to snap and act like a complete fool and endanger a citizen.

This asshole need to be fired. Its already enough that he’s a cop, but being a negligent douchebag? If I ever see this guy out on the street I’ll be sure to kick his ass. This is exactly whats wrong with America.

Sure we all wish teenagers could act more mature, but after all they are still teenagers. Sure she could have handled the situation better….but what could be that TRAINED cop’s excuse for his poor behaviors and misjudgments in a situation like that? Repeat Offender is right: “The officer needs to be sent to EAP to find out what caused him to snap and act like a complete fool and endanger a citizen.”

I wonder what would that cop do if it was his wife calling and cursing because their child is dying….

Both of them are in the wrong. The police officer for reacting the way he did, and the girl for jumping straight to pardon my french a bitchy tone. “Are you going to give me the fucking ambulance?”, “I’m gonna sue you, gimme your name!” both of them piss me off.

This officer is a power hungry abusive moron. He should be criminally charged for the misuse of his power. A suspension is not an adequate punishment. He is obviously not a person who can be trusted with any, any, authority. This man misused his authority to mistreat a child, then criminalize the child, while at the same time endangering the life of this child’s caregiver (her father). This officer is a perpetrator. Anyone who does not see this is simply blind to this misuse of power.

That retard should do jail time. Playing with people’s lives because of a swear word which was said before the “officer” even picked up is not what a rational human would do.

Am sorry but i have been there when, phone calls to 911 here in Canada and they will ask anything. Be it a score of a football game or hockey game .. The operator usually locks the line and they get a visit the next day . But to get back to the call in question .. It was just handled wrong. In a big way .. People in distress or under a lot of stress handle things differently. He has do do his job and deal with the emergency .
As a cop i just want to say he fucked up..
Deal with the Emerg first then deal with the grammare
