NY Cop Acquitted After Body Slamming Woman
Posted on 28. May, 2009 by admin in Excessive Force
A New York policeman who was caught on video apparently body slamming a woman to a tile floor has been acquitted of civil rights violations.
Jurors in federal court in White Plains found 39-year-old Yonkers Police Officer Wayne Simoes (SIM’-oze) not guilty Wednesday afternoon.
The video, from a restaurant surveillance camera, seemed to show the officer lifting 44-year-old Irma Marquez by her waist and throwing her face-first to the floor. She was knocked unconscious and her jaw was broken.

seems like handcuffing her might have been a decent alternative

Of course he was acquitted. Clearly the woman struck two officers and was resisting arrest before the takedown which is actually a belly to back takedown and not a bodyslam.

I recommend the use of the Tazer over physical contact. Much cleaner and less chance of anyone getting injured. Plus, it makes a much funnier video.

Just not right .
I know what is going on, been threw it myself , but the take down was a little agressive. Didnt need to happen . A good cop would have her on the ground in a heart beat. she wasnt a threat . Just do what needs to be done.. I have taken down 3 crackheads at one time , started aggressive and then compliant ..
I will never judge another cop . But sometimes less agressive is more agressive. You have to have been there to understand ..

This reminded me of something I saw last year while visiting NYC. I was in NYC last September 11th sightseeing and I witnessed a cop go after a guy just for talking too loudly. What i saw was a clear case of police brutality, yet when I read the article later, it made it look like the guy was all to blame. I can tell you from seeing what happened that the cops just ganged up on this guy from the start and all he did was talk back to the cop for starting something with him in the first place. I’m sure when you read the article you will think differently. I wonder how many articles we see all the time about this kind of thing are really just the police acting too aggressively.
NH MAN ASSAULTS POLICE OFFICER NEAR GROUND ZERO
September 12, 2009 – A New Hampshire man was arrested late Friday night for assaulting a NYC police officer near Ground Zero. Michael Keri, 39, of Portsmouth, NH, was reportedly causing a disturbance 3 blocks from the site of the World Trade Center disaster on September 11th. When he was approached by an unidentified NYC police officer, Keri reportedly began to argue with the officer and a struggle ensued. The officer attempted to place Keri under arrest when he was allegedly struck several times in the face and head by the suspect. Three other police officers patrolling nearby came to the officer’s aid and were able to subdue Keri and take him into custody. At the time of the arrest, Keri was found in possession of brass knuckles and was subsequently charged with assault of a peace officer, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, disobeying an officer, and carrying a concealed deadly weapon. Keri was transported to the downtown booking station and was released the next day on $ 5,000 bail. He has been ordered to appear in NYC District Court later this month. The unidentified officer was brought to St. Vincent’s Hospital where he was treated for his injuries and released.
